CAMPAIGN

Save Rail Services......... 20th June 2006
The Ivybridge Rail User's Group was very proactive in campaigning against the cuts in rail services announced by FGW in February 2006. These cuts affected many areas over the South and South West rail network. Many of these cuts were subsequently re-instated. However there are still other places where there have been cuts in services. We support the campaigns in other areas, notably Melksham, where these cuts have taken place.

Ongoing Campaigns
Our campaign actively promotes the use of train travel instead of using cars or taxis. We do not advocate using buses as replacements for existing train services as has been suggested recently by John Armitt of Network Rail.
The government has actively promoted the use of train travel as an alternative to road transport in order to reduce congestion and unecessary carbon emissions.
Have they now gone back on their previous policies? Is the future bleak for some rail services?
The group supports campaigns to save and improve train services throughout the country, notably 'Save the Train' and CANBER. See websites page for details of these campaigns. In the South West we are supporting an ongoing campaign to get a better service from First Great Western, the franchise holder for the region. Back to top
User's forums
There is a user's forum on the Saltash Rail User's Group website. Here you can add comments and discuss FGW's performance in providing services in the area. There is also the Great  Western coffee shop site where you can see current comments and complaints about FGW's services. You can get to these sites by going to our websites page and clicking the Campaign assistant and following the links. There are also links to other campaigns in this section. Back to top
